Take a virtual tour of the proposed SCRX
The SCRX is a destination attraction that will occupy about two acres, with about 1/3 acre to be a public plaza with a 110’ diameter turntable for equipment display and maneuvering.
Southern California Railroad Experience Vision:
To be the premier destination for presenting the spirit of Southern California through its railroad heritage
Southern California Railroad Experience Mission:
To provide, through our ideas, exhibitions, and programs, engaging educational and entertaining experiences to Southern California residents and visitors.
Southern California Railroad Experience Goal:
To fulfill the Vision and Mission by developing and presenting programs that capture the spirit of Southern California through its railroad heritage and by partnering with governmental and private entities to create an experiential destination

The proposed space program for the SCRX includes public area exhibits and galleries that will occupy some 86,700 square feet on two floors. This includes some 70,500 square feet of exhibit area, and 16,200 square feet of support space. In addition to interpretive and interactive railroad and historic exhibits and displays, the program will include a shop, group assembly space, restrooms, a children’s train ride, and support services.

The overall market for the SCRX includes a primary market resident population of about 2.2 million living within 10 miles, with 7.6 million living within 10 to 25 miles, and with 6.4 million living within 25 to 50 miles. In addition, there is an extensive tourist market available to the project. There are about 57.3 million non-resident leisure and business tourist visitors to Orange County annually. Finally, there is a school market of 495,000 in Orange County.
A variety of rail-related structures and symbols are located throughout the development creating a unique exterior gallery of public art, sustaining and reinforcing the thematic character of the site and lending an overall authenticity of place.
The presence of the SCRX will distinguish any nearby developments from the myriad of urban mixed-use projects that proliferate throughout Southern California, creating at the same time a relaxing, entertaining community locus for gathering, and most significantly, a unique destination visitor attraction.
While clearly commemorative of Southern California’s historic identification with railroads and current expanding role as a commuter hub, the SCRX speaks to the region through its mission to preserve and interpret the rail heritage of Southern California.

Detailed Space Program
The SCRX Footprint on the Schematic Design Concept Plan is nominally 55,500 s/f or 1.27 acres. The total enclosed area is 86,700 s/f, with approximately 28,500 s/f attributable to the “train shed” and the balance comprised of the Roundhouse and the various functions it houses. The full 86,700 s/f would be contained within a height of 40’ on 2 levels. The restaurant/observation deck is external to this massing, but is included in the space program for cost estimating purposes. Depending on site location and characteristics, additional land may be required for parking, resulting in a total site size of approximately 2.25 acres
