Sign-ups due Jan. 20 for SCRPA Excursion to Fillmore Depot & Santa Paula SCRPA is offering an all-day excursion by bus and train on February 25, 2012. We’ll meet at the Fullerton Train Station and travel by bus to the Fillmore Depot, where you’ll climb aboard a Fillmore & Western Railway Co. train for a scenic ride to Santa Paula. Lunch will be served along the way and the stop in Santa Paula will include a docent-led tour of the California Oil Museum, which traces the state’s history of oil exploration and production. In this “Citrus Capital of the World,” you can also tour nearby Agriculture and Art museums. On the way back to Fillmore, we’ll stop at The Loose Caboose gift emporium, known for its vast assortment of model trains in all the popular gauges. | SCRPA packinghouse modules are showcased in Fullerton museum exhibit “Citrus: California’s Golden Dream,” features an array of fruit labels, historical books, maps, postcards, farm machinery, packing crates and other citrus industry memorabilia. Models of vintage packinghouses on display were crafted by members of the Southern California Railway Plaza Association. The exhibit is on view through March 25 at the Fullerton Museum Center, 301 N. Pomona Ave., east of Harbor Boulevard in Downtown Fullerton. Hours are noon-4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays-Sundays; and noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays. Admission ranges from $4 for adults, $3 with student ID and senior citizens 65 and older, $1 for ages 6 to 12; and free to children under 5 and to FMC members. All visitors are $2 from 4-8 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. Information: 714-738-6545. |
Railroad Days 2012 has been unanimously approved by the City Council for May 5 & 6 at the Fullerton Train Station. SCRPA’s Railroad Days Chairman Jeff Schulze and his committee are in the planning stages with Amtrak, BNSF and Metrolink and talking with Disneyland about a rail-related exhibit. They are also signing up vendors and exhibitors. |
SCRPA sends a big thank you to everyone who attended our first Community Celebration at the Fullerton Train Station on Saturday, December 10, preceding the show presented on Metrolink’s annual Holiday Toy Express.
More than 400 people enjoyed free tours of the cabooses and throngs of kids created colorful Thomas the Tank Engine pages or solved the "Polar Express" word search, while young and old alike stopped by our face-painting booth.
The Community Celebration was made possible by a partnership with the city of Fullerton and donations from Barnes & Noble, Amerige Heights; Judy Lynn Bakery, La Mirada Arts Colony, Patty's Cakes, Ruth Huson and the Santa Fe Cafe.
